Copyediting: This level of editing is typically the second to last stage in the editing process. It includes a detailed review of the author's tone, clarity in the writing, grammar, spelling, flow, word choice, and consistency. The goal is to provide the client with recommendations to make a more cohesive and readable manuscript that adheres to any style guide or standards set forth.

Proofreading: This is the last step in the editing process. This is the time to go through the manuscript with a fine-tooth comb to look for any and all details to polish up. This includes typos, formatting, page layout, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. The goal is to deliver a polished document with zero errors.

Authenticity Reading, or sensitivity reading, is a type of beta reading. The focus is to strengthen the authenticity of a story or manuscript on items such as plot, character development, setting, and dialogue.

Many writers hire authenticity readers to provide feedback on their work when they write about a community or identity of people that they do not have firsthand knowledge or lived experiences on. This can be particularly beneficial when the characters are from a marginalized group or one where stereotypes may be perpetuated.
